Libsyn offers a WordPress Plugin to any Libsyn user on any hosting plan. The plugin makes it easy to publish your podcast from inside WordPress, while still maintaining the benefits of the Libsyn RSS feed and Libsyn media hosting, as well as taking advantage of all our third party destination publishing (such as to Facebook or Twitter).
If you are more comfortable with your workflow inside Libsyn and want to publish a podcast using WordPress, this is the best, most stable way to do so.
Installing the Plugin
Installing the plugin is done from inside the WordPress Plugin Directory. On the Plugins menu along your left hand side is an option to add a new plugin. Click Add New.
In the search for the plugin directory, simply search for Libsyn.
The Libsyn plugin will appear. Hit the install button.
The plugin will install, confirm that it’s been installed, and ask you to Activate the plugin. Click Activate.
That’s it! The plugin is now installed and ready to be configured.
Configuring the Plugin
With the plugin installed, you will need to connect the plugin to your Libsyn account. If you click on the Libsyn Podcasting plugin in your left hand menu, you will see it will ask you for a Client ID and a Client Secret which you need to obtain from your Libsyn account.
Click on here, or when logged into your Libsyn account click on the green arrow in the upper right hand corner and select Manage WordPress Plugins.
Enter your WordPress domain name.
The Application Name above is for your reference only and can be helpful if you have multiple WordPress sites that you are installing the plugin on.
Once you are done, hit save.
You will then be given the Client ID and the Client Secret. Leave this window open or write these down, then go back to your WordPress install and copy the Client ID and the Client Secret.
Hit Save Changes, and you will then be asked to log into your Libsyn account. Enter your Libsyn username and password, then click the login button.
Lastly, you will be asked to approve the permissions WordPress needs for the plugin to operate. Click on Yes.
The plugin is now connected to your Libsyn account. The settings page will appear where you can select your show from the list (especially if you have more than one show on your account), be sure to select your show.
Configuring the Media Player
The plugin is now fully configured and ready to publish to Libsyn. You can configure the HTML5 media player that will appear on your posts to look the way you want by allowing you to choose the skin, whether or not a thumbnail image will appear, and what size the player should be.
Install the plugin, connect it to Libsyn, and you are now off and publishing. See our publishing tutorial for details on creating podcast episodes using WordPress and the Libsyn plugin.
