You want to spread your show far and wide, and that includes Twitter. Libsyn now offers the ability to automatically publish your content to Twitter. To get started, log into your Libsyn dashboard and click on in the main menu. This will show you a list of your available destinations.
Setting Up Twitter OnPublish
Most likely, the Twitter destination doesn’t exist in your list yet, so we will need to add it:
You will need to log into Twitter and approve the plugin. To do so, hit the Log In with Twitter to Proceed button.
You will be directed to Twitter and asked to authorize the app to perform certain functions on your Twitter account on your behalf. If you are not currently logged in, you will be asked to log in first.
You will be redirected back to your Libsyn Dashboard which will now acknowledge the connection.
If you ever want to end the connection, just come back to this page and hit the log out button. Otherwise, any new episodes you post to your Libsyn account will be able to be released to Twitter automatically.
- You can add as many Twitter accounts as you wish. They will be identified by your profile name in the destination step of advanced publishing as well as on the social media page. If you have multiple Twitter accounts and post using the basic publishing system, your post will publish to all Facebook and Twitter accounts.
- If you are using a feed sync, your posts will not automatically publish to the social media destinations. If you have an episode you want posted to a specified social network after the post has been synchronized, you can do so by manually editing the post and checking off the social network destination.
- While the post date and time can still be edited inside Libsyn, Twitter will show the date/time the episode was posted to them regardless of what is entered into our system. The On-Publish app has no control over this. For example, if you edit a post that was made a year ago and set the date to be a year ago and post out to Twitter today the date shown in Twitter will be today.
Libsyn now supports playing content directly inside the Twitter feed. Posting the URL to your episode using the Libsyn Podcast Directory will automatically result in a newsfeed player.
You can browse to your episode in the Libsyn Podcast Directory and pull the URL from your address bar. Moving over to Twitter, enter the URL into your post:
You can also use your media file URL.
From inside the dashboard, use the embed and links button (as shown above) to find your media URL.
Once you’ve constructed your post, hit the Tweet button. The post will hit the newsfeed similar to an image would, and the viewer can ‘play’ the content straight from Twitter.
Note: This only works with the directory URL or the direct download URL. The timeline players will not work with permalinks.
Lastly, if you are using Twitter OnPublish with the Directory URL or the Traffic URL, your post will publish with the timeline player automatically, you don’t need to do anything extra, it will simply work.
